About
Chris Beckman lives in Seattle, where he works as a software engineer. He holds a B.F.A. in photography, a B.A. in journalism, and a J.D. from the University of Iowa.
Chris’s love of photography started with his first film 35mm camera, a hand-me-down Canon AE-1 that had a distinctive high-pitched shutter noise. He treats it as a conceptual practice: a collection of readymades, with a little bit of printmaking, and painting thrown in (don’t tell).
His photography examines public spaces, unintentional forms, semiotics, and community detritus. His work has been featured in The Iowa Review and Iowa Now.
